One of my favorite spots to eat while visiting the Big Island! The Fish and The Hog screams island old-school charm. Just hanging out on the front porch on tiny stools felt like a classic way to pass the time--laid back and welcoming. As for the BBQ? It's solid. I went with the sampler platter--brisket, pulled pork, and pork ribs--and really enjoyed it. Definitely worth the wait. I paired it with an island Moscow mule, which was fantastic and refreshing. But the real star of the show? The banana cream pie. Hands down the best I've ever had anywhere in the world. It will absolutely knock your socks off!

We decide to skip a day on the beach at our resort and do a little road trip and see some other options for our next visit to the Big Island, with family and grandchildren we ventured off to an area suggested by one of the bell man. I am always interested where the working staff like to eat and frequent and tend to stay away from the touristy locations when we travel. Let's face it we all want good food and great prices when we are traveling and the local working people have that knowledge in my opinion. So we headed to Waimea from our resort and got to Fish and Hog shortly before they were opening, when we pulled into the parking lot there was already a line of people waiting to get in. Known for their smoked and BBQ meats as well as fresh fish we were excited to try this location, about 25-30 minutes from the coast the drive was very scenic and the temperature was a lot cooler than when we left the beach. Unfortunately having the grandkids at the table I was not able to grab pics of the delizioso entrees we ordered ( if you have toddler grandchildren or children you know what I am referring too) Our server was very helpful and accommodating and happily helped decide on what to order, great ambiance and reasonable prices. Our entrees included an amazing fresh Poke Bowl, Blackened Mahi Mahi with sweet potato fries and cornbread as well as a 2nd order of fresh Mahi Mahi Panko crusted with House-made Cole slaw and cornbread, Mac n Cheese ( which was very good) and we finished with a piece of their most excellent Chocolate Cake for the table to try, we were told that their desserts were incredible and was hoping to try the Banana Cream Pie but they had just opened and it hadn't been prepared yet. All in All it was a great place to dine at and the food was plentiful and tasted amazing. The smoked meats looked incredible as well as the rest of the dishes offered on the menu. They offered a full bar with plenty of local beers as well. We will be back to explore the menu further but have to say be prepared for a small wait, it's definitely worth it and you won't be disappointed. Mangiamo!

Food and service is great... We had the brisket and fish tacos and really enjoyed our meal. We will definitely be back!

Sophie (10) pork street tacos The tacos were really yummy. The pork was the best I've had in Hawaii! Great amount of food. Josie (13) macaroni and cheese with pork It was soooo good and huge! You could tell the cheese sauce was homemade. Everyone was super duper nice. Katie- French Onion Soup Delicious! I have never had scallions on top but it had a good crunch and contrast to the onions in the soup. The service was above and beyond! I tried the bbq sauce and the flavor is so unique. We are taking a bottle home! I can't wait to try the slice of pie we grabbed for later. The restaurant has a cute farm feel and warmth. What a gem! Marc-Poke Bowl The poke bowl was everything I was looking for! The flavors were really well balanced and fresh. I appreciated how thin the chips were and nicely salted.

Food & Service all was great, friendly focused staff we where moved thru in a timely manner

Awesome place. We sat at the bar, the bartender/waitress was spectacular. Well worth the drive from Kona

We were lucky to have Jess too. She was very pleasant and made good suggestions to our order. We had the appetizer Tater Tots to start and it went pretty quickly as we were all hungry. The have it set up pretty good inside and we were served pretty quickly. You walk in the front they encourage you to walk through the back to leave. We only had to wait about 20 minutes during dinner time on a Monday. I thought the Sampler plate was perfect amount. The cornbread was ok but the grilled pineapple was delicious as well as the pork. The meats I liked the baby back ribs the most. My daughter had the sweet potato fries with a side salad. She liked the sweet potato fries over the regular fries. My wife had the salad with her choice of meat while my other daughter had the bacon cheeseburger and said it was really good.

We always have a great time at The Fish and The Hog. Their fried fish, sandwiches, and desserts are fantastic. I've had their sliced brisket twice now and although it is tender it has been a bit dry both times. The banana cream pie is 10/10. Arrive early and expect to wait 15-45 minutes during the dinner rush.

Another great meal at the Fish and the hog! I had the pineapple mint tea and loved it, slight mint flavor tea with pineapple juice. The food was delicious! Service was great. Remember to be patient as this place is packed and small. Plenty of parking in their expanded parking lot.

Some of the best mainland-Southern-style barbecue I've had in Hawaii, with a local twist. The beef brisket is juicy and tender, the shredded pork is succulent and tender, and the barbecue sauces are made with local ingredients. The service is wonderful, if you tell them you haven't been there before, they take the time to introduce you to the restaurant and the menu. The decor is old country farmhouse. Pull up a chair and get comfortable because they're going to feed you well! Don't miss the corn bread, it's incredible- tastes like fresh sweet corn with a touch of chili pepper, and the coconut cake slices are both huge and delicious!
